The year 2010 saw the world turn its attention to South Africa to witness the football spectacle that is the Fifa World Cup. The tournament took place from 11 June to 11 July. The matches were played in ten stadiums in nine host cities around the country, with the final played at the Soccer City stadium in South Africa’s largest city, Johannesburg. In a December 2010 Quality Progress, FIFA President Blatter rated South Africa’s organisational efforts a nine out of 10, declaring that South Africa could be considered a plan B for all future competitions. South Africans formed their own impressions of the tournament too. As a South African, this is a selection of my photographic interpretation.
